Corporate Social Responsibility Policy
At Ufford Park Woodbridge, we recognise the social and environmental responsibilities that we carry on behalf of our guests, our employees and the local community.
Ufford Park Hotel, Golf and Spa is an independently owned business, established in 1992, which is part of the community and, as such, many of the 150 staff and the majority of the golf, leisure and spa clientele are local to the hotel. We are pleased to support local schools and charitable organisations through donations for fund raising, work experience placements for students and mentoring to schools in the locality.
Values: Ufford Park's Values are to treat our customers as we would wish to be treated - with respect, honesty and loyalty. We are a family business so wish to continue our own family values throughout the company from the top and all the way down the company e.g. lead by example - be conscientious, look for the solution not the problem, keep positive and above all, SMILE!
Corporate Social Responsibility: As an independently owned and run hotel Ufford Park have always believed in value of supporting other local companies. It supports local produce and Fairtrade wherever possible and this is a major part in our USP (unique selling point). For the last 20+ years it has supported hundreds of local charities, schools and churches by providing vouchers for them to raise money via raffle prizes or to auction off. With the support of hotel customers, many thousands have been raised for our 3 main chosen charities; East Anglian Air Ambulance, St. Elizabeth Hospice and most recently, Suffolk Age UK.
"We are committed to minimising the negative impact of the hotel on the environment and, to this end, we currently have a large number of measures in place and are constantly searching for new ideas. Right from the outset we have been acutely aware of our environmental responsibilities and in 1997 we built a reservoir on the golf course, which holds 4 million gallons of water and boosts our existing summer water supply. The construction utilised 14,000 redundant car tyres, covered in soil, to reduce wear and tear and give the waterproof lining a more natural appearance. The tyres were delivered by a local supplier as an eco-friendly alternative to disposing of them.
Within the grounds and golf course we operate nature friendly policies and, have developed a natural habitat for wildlife and flora. The latest RSPB bird count identifying some 68 species of birds across the site. The hotel has been proud to win The English Golfer Environmental Award in recognition of our commitment to ecological good practice. We have also been awarded The Silver Tourism Award and most recently, a Golf Green Leaders award by Trip Advisor.
Our aim is to work towards continuous improvement in environmental management and performance by hotel staff and, to encourage support from our customers, suppliers and the local community. Although it is sometimes not possible to recycle or reuse every item, we are always searching for new ideas. We welcome any positive suggestions.
In 2015, having successfully applied for a Low Carbon Keep Grant, we invested into a system called ENERGI+. This system can measure exactly how many electrical items we have within the business, how much energy they use and how much it costs us a year to run! It is with this information we have been able to start dramatically improving our Carbon Footprint e.g. we have just invested in replacing almost all of our lighting with low energy LED lighting. On the back of this an Energy Committee has been elected who meet monthly to brain storm and take responsibility for saving energy wherever possible. Other environmental investments include the installation of Solar Panels, new Veri Heaters for the swimming pool, water conservation, recycling and more." says Tarnia Robertson, Managing Director.
