Ufford Park Newsletter - Autumn 2016
Welcome to our Autumn newsletter, which is brimming with information. We would like to thank you or your patronage in the past and to let you know that there has been a great deal of change going on at Ufford Park including refurbishment and new attractions such as our adventure golf course, Congo Rapids Lost World. Watch this space as there’s more to come!
We’re very excited with the progress being made in The Park Restaurant which is being given a make over. The new floor and carpet have been laid and other work should be complete by the end of November 2016.
Further refurbishment work for the New Year
Following the completion of our bedroom refurbishment work earlier this year we’re planning even more in 2017. Beginning in early 2017 we will have another 27 bedrooms completed by Spring 2017 and we’re very keen for you to see what we’ve done.
Congo Rapids Lost World
In June 2016 the new adventure golf course Congo Rapids Lost World opened at Ufford Park. It has been an instant hit during the summer holidays with many visitors enjoying the fun of playing the 18-hole course in the company of dinosaurs, volcanoes and self-propelled rafts! It is open 364 days a year and is an activity for players of all ages.
Facts and figures about the hotel
Turkeys: This year, our kitchen is expecting to cook between 90 and 100 turkeys for Christmas, an increase of 10% from last year, with the average weight of the turkeys being a whopping 14.5kg!
Footfall: The expected footfall through Ufford Park in 2016 will be 219,000 people. Between January and August, we had a staggering 18,345 sleepers!
Anniversary: In April 2017 Ufford Park will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary - over 25 years the hotel has seen lots of changes and we’re all looking forward to marking this special event.
Unlike many hotels, we’ve always welcomed dogs to the hotel (not into The Park Restaurant) and we even include a ‘doggy bag’ in our bedrooms, with a treat for your favourite four-legged friend.
Attractions in the area
One of our great advantages is that we’re located in a beautiful part of the British countryside. Not only do we have all of Suffolk’s beaches within easy reach but there are a number of English Heritage and National Trust properties nearby, including the world-renowned Anglo Saxon burial site at Sutton Hoo. Treasures found at the site are now exhibited at the British Museum. The castles of Orford and Framlingham are also not far away and are both great for family days out.
High Five from ...
... Keith Hannah, Operations Manager.
Q. What’s your role and how long have you been doing it at Ufford Park?
A. I’ve been working at Ufford Park since 1999 and have undertaken a number of roles here including General Porter, Conference Leader, Duty Manager, Food & Beverage Manager and HR Manager. I’ve been Operations Manager since 2013 and have responsibility for a team of about 40 staff managing weddings, christenings, wakes, dinners and conferences at Ufford Park.
Q. What are the most challenging aspects of your job?
A. I have been told that I “thrive on stress” and I think this is probably true. I’m a perfectionist and pay a huge amount of attention to the detail of any event, which can be a challenge when there are many events going on at the same time. Luckily my team is very efficient and we work well together to ensure that everything goes according to plan.
Q. What’s the last thing you do before leaving work at the end of the day?
A. I have to ensure that the night book is up to date and in the right hands. This provides a complete handover so that everyone knows what needs to be done that evening and overnight.
Q. If you weren’t doing this job what would you be doing?
A. It would have to be something that involved the public, maybe retail or a small Café of my own, I’m a real people person and enjoy meeting people. This goes back to my childhood as my parents and grandparents were all in hospitality, I think that perhaps it was my destiny to follow in their footsteps.
Q. Three words to describe your job?
A. Chaotic, Varied, Social
