Tarnia’s 1st Anniversary as Managing Director
This month marks the 1st anniversary since Tarnia Robertson assumed the role of Managing Director at Ufford Park Woodbridge following the retirement of her parents, Colin and Shirley Aldous, who had been running the hotel since 1991.
Tarnia came to work for the family business in 2000 on a part-time basis, to coordinate and bring structure to the marketing and advertising of the company. She soon became involved in all aspects of the hotel’s management, building 15 years of experience to bring to her role as Managing Director.
In the past year Tarnia has made the role very much her own. She has progressed the refurbishment of the hotel’s bedrooms, and in the coming years she has plans to modernise the remaining bedrooms, public areas and the health club. She said “The programme of refurbishment that I’ve implemented is an important one for the hotel in order to help me achieve my vision for Ufford Park. I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed the challenge of the Managing Director role so far. I’m ready and excited about where I can take Ufford Park over the next 20 years.”
Congo Rapids Lost World Adventure Golf is coming to Ufford Park
In February we announced that we’d submitted a planning application, in partnership with adventure golf experts Moore Adventure, for a new, Florida-style, adventure golf course to be built within Ufford Park’s grounds.
We’re delighted that our application was successful and construction of the course has begun. It is to be named Congo Rapids Lost World and is set to be open in advance of the school summer holidays 2016 offering the whole family a fun, outdoor activity to participate in.
Moore Adventure already operates a successful adventure golf course in Norwich, Norfolk called Congo Rapids but this is the first of its kind planned within Suffolk. Adventure golf is different from mini golf or crazy golf as it offers more physical interaction at some of the course holes, and it also offers a more dramatic environment for the players to enjoy.
We are very excited at the prospect of opening such a fabulous new family attraction within our grounds. It will make for a great day out and can be combined with our new Little Adventurers’ children’s menu which is now available in our dining areas all day. We hope that players will stay and enjoy something to eat or drink with us when they come. The course will also appeal to couples and other groups of friends of all ages. All our facilities are open to non-members so everyone is made welcome at Ufford Park.
New Spring menus to tempt your taste buds
At Ufford Park we offer a range of dining experiences from informal eating from our bar snack menu in The Park Bar, to more formal dining in The Park Restaurant. Our experienced chefs prioritise quality, local ingredients. They always insist on free-range eggs, and wherever possible, organically-grown fruit and vegetables, as well as beef, lamb, chicken, pork and game. You can read more about our locally-sourced food on our website.
We’re also happy to be announcing this month the launch of new Spring menus including a new bar snack menu and our Little Adventurer’s children’s menu.
Everyone is welcome, members or non-members, whether staying at the hotel or not, at any time of day, so whether you fancy one of our award-winning breakfasts or afternoon tea there’s something for everyone.
We’ve given more bedrooms a ‘make over’
We’ve recently completed our latest phase of bedroom refurbishment with designs to address comfort and the more practical needs of our hotel guests. We recognise that our customers stay with us for a variety of reasons. Sometimes bedrooms need to be an ‘office’ space as well as a space to kick back and relax. We’ve ensured that the design in our newly decorated rooms works on both levels, and that guests have all the supporting features they need including additional plug sockets and USB ports to charge mobile phones, tablets and other technology.
One third of our 90 bedrooms have now been extensively refurbished since December 2014 amounting to an investment by the hotel of over £220,000 so far! The latest phase involved the refurbishment of a further eight Classic bedrooms and two Superior bedrooms. New carpets, beds, feature walls and curtains all contribute to a contemporary style with natural and earthy colour schemes, as well as quality, energy-efficient lighting. Night storage radiators have also been replaced with Rointe energy efficient convector heaters and local suppliers were used for all the electric, building and decorating work. A London-based firm supplied us with the interior design concepts and soft furnishings.
We are delighted that our refurbishment programme is going so well and that this recent phase (phase three) was completed ahead of the planned deadline and to budget. We hope to be able to announce the beginning of phase four next January 2017. Plans could include the refurbishment of 27 more bedrooms, bathrooms and over the next 6-8 months we also plan to continue slowly modernising our public areas too so watch this space...
