Dog Friendly Suffolk

Holidaying with your dog could not be easier. With over 3,500 miles of footpaths you can enjoy the great outdoors by exploring delightful farmland routes – some from the hotel. Follow coastal footpaths or join riverside routes such as the Fyn Valley or Stour Valley walks. Why not picnic and appreciate the wildlife in tranquil woodlands such as Rendlesham (you can even follow the spooky UFO trail), Thetford or Dunwich forests? If you prefer an educational stroll many of the historic towns offer trails and circular walks with welcoming pubs en-route. Indeed, you are never far from a dog friendly pub in Suffolk.

National Trust open spaces at Dunwich Heath and Flatford are doggy delights and offer engaging museums and welcome refreshments for you.  Or unwind with a ramble in the grounds of Ickworth or Melford Hall and take turns to delve into the history of these majestic properties. Travel back in time at the East Anglian Museum of Rural Life at Stowmarket where an extensive display of artefacts, some hands-on, will take you back a few generations. Your dog will be welcome exploring the exhibits too after a walk across the fields to the working forge. Or be transported – quite literally at East Anglia Transport Museum, Lowestoft where you and your dog can travel on a trolley bus, tram or train.

Another dogs’ delight is the Suffolk beaches. Many resorts such as stunning Southwold and wonderful Walberswick welcome dogs all year and between October and April all beaches are accessible. Whatever time of year you visit, the Suffolk coast - be it bracing or balmy - is never disappointing.

Rural Suffolk has dog friendly events throughout the year. Real treats for you and your dog are the popular summer agricultural shows, including Suffolk, Tendring and Hadleigh. Relax at the beer and craft tents whilst your faithful friend enjoys the company of other dogs.

How about experiencing life in the Suffolk countryside first hand at a village fete or festival? Just for fun enter a dog show, perhaps: ‘the most awesome eyes’ or ‘most fabulous fella’ – at ‘All About Dogs’, an Easter treat.
