We use local products and free range. It simply makes sense.

There have been many Buy British initiatives over the years. Perhaps the most famous was the ‘I'm Backing Britain’ campaign in the late 1960s. It started when five secretaries at a ventilation and heating company volunteered to work an extra half hour each day without pay to do their bit for the flagging economy. It took on a life of its own and within the week, other companies were following suit. The media took it on and the famous Robert Maxwell supported it in his newspaper chain. In America, buying American is seen to be the patriotic thing to do!

When you are a local business, as we are at Ufford Park, it makes a lot of sense to support your local economy. From a practical point of view; your suppliers are close by so can deliver quickly but it is more than that. If you use local products, you get to know the people who make them. It becomes a personal as well as a professional relationship. You can go and visit and more importantly, taste, the fabulous food they make.

It is a pleasure to work with award winning local companies such as Breckland Orchard, suppliers of delicious posh pop, and nominees in the family business of the year awards this year. Our chefs delight in creating mouth-watering recipes made with fresh chickens from Jack Brand and British meats from Dedham Vale. Even our crisps are sourced from local award winning Fairfield Farms!

We believe that excellent food is created with excellent ingredients and our chefs are very particular about what comes into their kitchen. We know that we can source outstandingly fresh produce by going local and where possible our food is free range and organic. Sample our delicious Gressingham duck recipes and you will understand why our menu is such a success. Did you know that a skinless duck fillet has less calories and less than half the fat of a skinless chicken fillet? So, our food is fresh, tasty and good for you!

Another reason for ‘buying local’ is a commitment to seasonal menus. Our chefs understand that if you cook with seasonal fruit and vegetables you are always assured of absolute freshness and food free from artificial ingredients (such as preservatives). Cooking with seasonal ingredients makes economic, business and taste sense. We also source out jams, pickle, chutney and sauces from local producer such as Tiptree and Stokes Sauces. When you use local products you get to learn the history behind the producers and many of them are family businesses like Ufford Park. Our dairy products are sourced locally and we can enjoy serving our customers delightful desserts made with award winning crème fraiche, and fresh that day milk. You can finish your meal with locally produced cheeses and Suffolk chutney and maybe sample some of our local ales and cider. Our award winning breakfasts include locally produced yoghurt and sausages (with vegetarian versions also available).
