7 winter activities to warm yourself up and bring a smile to your face

As the nights draw in and the weather turns wet, windy and cold, you might be forgiven for wanting to hibernate. This time of year can however, be a great time to try some new activities and also to treat yourself. Here is a list of 7 things to do in winter to chase away the blues and bring a smile to your face.

Things to do in winter 1 - Try ice skating

Wrap up warm, take your courage in both hands and don’t worry about falling over, everyone does. This winter a few towns are creating ice rinks especially for the festive season. They provide skates, there is music, and it doesn’t really matter if it is cold- it is supposed to be. Alternatively check out the indoor rinks and persuade the whole family to have a go. It is great exercise, a lot of fun and you can treat yourself to a hot drink afterwards.

Things to do in winter 2 - Take your camera for a walk in the countryside

The light at this time of year is very different to the usual summer snaps we take on holiday. The trees are forming interesting shapes against the winter sky and sometimes the sky itself is very dramatic. It gives you a different perspective on the season when you look at it through a camera lens - and who knows you may create a picture good enough to hang on your wall. Plus, you are getting some fresh air and helping to top up your vitamin D by grabbing what sunlight there is available.

Things to do in winter 3 - Treat yourself to a spa experience

Our skin and circulation can get a bit sluggish in the winter months. Give yourself a boost by having a spa experience and refreshing and rejuvenating your winter body. Check out our range of luxurious spa treatments at Ufford Park

Things to do in winter 4 - Re-invent yourself

We traditionally make and break New Year’s resolutions and then start to think about change again in the spring. Why not make this the year when you finally get fit, restyle your hair, take more exercise or start a new sport? Join a health club and stick to it by working with a personal trainer and getting support from professional fitness experts. You can use Ufford Park’s superb health club on a daily basis at day rates that are great value.

Things to do in winter 5 - Start a new hobby

We do tend to slow down a little in the winter months, so to keep your brain active and lift your mood - try a new hobby. This could be as simple as jigsaw puzzles (great for family time), Sudoku or learning to cook Thai food!

Things to do in winter 6 - Try golf

Golf is not restricted to the summer months at Ufford Park. Its excellent natural drainage ensures greens are playable all-year round. (Ufford Park Woodbridge has been voted top winter golf course by Today’s Golfer). Our unique, two-storey floodlit driving range is open seven days a week and its heated bays ensure year-round use. If you are a novice golfer, then enrol in our Doctorgolf Teaching Academy and discover the delights of a healthy, low impact sport that is great for your health, very sociable and relaxing.

Things to do in winter 7 - Be social

Don’t draw the curtains and stay at home wishing for the spring. Get out and about, enjoy a wonderful meal, listen to some great jazz, dance to 80’s music and laugh the night away. Check out our events page for ideas and read our blog and social media pages to see what’s coming up at Ufford Park this winter. There are plenty of things to do in winter at Ufford Park that will bring a smile to your face and warm your heart.
