Beccles – Accessible days out
With a range of accessible restaurants and cafés, plus a variety of activities too, it’s easy to spend a day (or more!) exploring what Beccles has to offer.
Beccles Marsh – The easy access trail is 1.5 miles long and consists of natural hard surface and tarmac. There is an accessible toilet at the Quay, which along with the information centre and seasonal café makes it a good place to start. Free parking is available beside the Quay or a short way up the road at the trails’ start. Discover Suffolk have an informative leaflet available here.
Waveney Stardust – A registered charity with 2 day cruisers purpose built for people in wheelchairs or walking difficulties, their mission is “to provide safe, subsidised and enjoyable river cruises for the disabled and/or elderly (people who would not otherwise be able to access the pleasures of the Broadland Waterways) including their family and friends.” For further information, including pricing, please visit their website here.
Beccles Lido – Beccles Lido is a traditional open-air swimming pool with a 30 x 15m main pool and separate toddler and paddling pools, all heated to 27 °C. There are also lots of sunbathing areas, both grassy and paved, sun loungers, picnic tables, tables and chairs, a kiddie’s adventure play area, onsite café and accessible facilities including hoist-assisted entry to the water if needed. For prices and opening times please check the Beccles Lido website.
Beccles and District Museum – Open April to October, the museum has a collection of some 10,500 objects. While many of its collection are on permanent display, the museum also displays four temporary exhibitions each year. There are three steps into the main entrance, however they do have a separate accessible entrance – you just need to ring the door bell and a Steward will open the door. There is a lift inside that circumvents the steps down to the School Room and there is an adapted toilet. To check opening hours and more information please visit the Beccles Museum website.
Beccles Public Hall & Theatre – Fully accessible and with a wide range of on offer from art, film, music and theatre, there’s always something to see. To check the calendar and buy tickets take a look at the Beccles Public Hall & Theatre’s website.
